Birthday and Beyond! The Social Solutions Academy team celebrated a great first birthday party at Innospace, Minshull House on 30th September 2010.
Vanessa Augustus, Head of Innovation and her team of Connection Managers welcomed members and guests to an evening of entertainment, education, connections for business, laughter and fun!
Guest speaker Esmail Patel from D.E.A.F educated guests on his experience of creating a successful social business to support the employment and training needs of deaf people. Speaking through an interpreter Esmail communicated how he has worked with the local media to promote the recognition of his services through various awards.
Michael Wray from Zemap also presented a interactive talk on how social and environmental leaders can get their message heard by building effective relationships with the media.
Guests also enjoyed the entertainment by a young local singer and art exhibition by local media Savvi.

What types of connections were made during the evening?
Environmental leaders: We connected an environmental leader working with trees to a guest managing an innovative project that uses local produce (apples) to engage the community
Health and Well-being: We connected a health and well being business owner to a marketing communications expert to look at how his messages can have a greater impact on existing and potential customers
Young people: We connected two young people attending the event to a local artist working on a youth engagement project
Women and media: We connected the founder of an international women’s project to a documentary maker to explore the potential of filming in Ghana
