We officially launched our Social Innovation Incubator during Social Enterprise Action Day, 18th November 2010
During the day a Social Innovation Panel comprising of commissioning, social entrepreneurs, private sector leaders and academics contributed to a discussion focused in worklessness in two deprived neighbourhoods in Manchester.
What did the Social Innovation Panel do?
Panel members were asked to think about their individual responses to the following question before the event:
“Thinking about Ardwick and New East Manchester, what are the challenges, barriers and issues of getting the long-term unemployed with mental health/substance abuse issues or physical disabilities into work?”
Key outputs from the session were:
• Collaborative list of issues, barriers and challenges
• An Influence Map showing some of the most important of those issues, barriers and challenges, and how they relate to each other
• A better understanding amongst the participants of the real meaning behind those issues, a shared language
• A shared understanding of the diverse perspectives represented
• Convergence towards agreement on ‘the problem’ and the priorities for effort
The outcome of the discussion were presented to delegates attending Social Enterprise Action Day.
