The Social Solutions Academy (SSA) has been commissioned by Gorton People Stronger Together to deliver a bespoke employability and skills coach course.
Each session is designed to be fun and interactive. Participants will also be given personal coaching sessions. The course is aimed at Gorton residents seeking to improve employability skills, access information and consider volunteering opportunities.
The delivery of the sessions is a direct follow-up to the Social Innovation Panel mapping exercise conducted in November at Social Enterprise Action Day. The need to raise self-confidence and self esteem amongst unemployed people was a key recommendation from the panel members representing social enterprise, public and private organisations.
Working at the local level is a key focus for Vanessa Augustus, Head of Innovation and Partnerships. As a Gorton resident herself Vanessa is presently working hard to maintain relationships with key organisations in East Manchester. She is a founding member of the emerging Gorton Business Forum. Her existing connection to the wider business and social enterprise community in East Manchester means she will be in a good position to ask local businesses to offer work placements to local residents completing the course.
Vanessa is delighted to be working with the Gorton People Together Project. She was keen to see local people accessing support that would have a long term impact on their lives. “I am excited that people in my own residential community have an opportunity to access support help them reach their true life potential” she said.
The six week course starts on the 16th March at Cedar Mount School from 10.00 until 14.00.
